Fixing Front Street was created in June 2020. Our local municipal shelter the City of Sacramento's Front Street Shelter began turning away stray animal in droves. It was done under the guise of Covid, but NONE of our other area shelters were following these protocols. In fact, the State of California had deemed Animal Shelters as essential services so that they would not be closed. Front Street closed anyway. There was a newly hired director and he came in and changed everything, none of which seemed to be for the betterment of the animals. A group of us got together & began advocating for change at Front Street. We quickly learned it wasn't just this shelter that was creating issues for animal communities. Interconnected "national orgs" came in with their own agendas. The national orgs propaganda machines began indoctrinating shelters across the country with "community sheltering" & "capacity for care" terminology. What both of those terms mean essentially is do not let animals into the shelter at seemingly any cost. It means go back 20, 30, 40 plus years, if you see a stray shoo it away or let it into your house, but do not take it to the shelter. What this also means is no spay or neuter, no vaccinations & animal populations growing out of control once again, packs of roaming dogs like they have in El Paso thanks to El Paso Animal Services following these same unconscionable trends and animals being killed on the streets. None of this is good for communities & it is especially not good for the animals. Thank you for joining us in this fight to fix Front Street & other shelters like them!
