Councilmember Katie Valenzuela supports Front Street's Incompetence

Per Inside Sacramento reporter Cathryn Rakich in her recent article exposing the ongoing malfeasance at our taxpayer funded Front Street Municipal Shelter:

"Is it any wonder why thousands of stray animals enter local shelters every year? As of mid-October, Front Street took in more than 6,000 strays. Nearly 1,000 were euthanized." https://insidesacramento.com/wheres-the-urgency-2/

57 dogs, and 51 cats have lost their lives in October alone. Are we to believe none of these animals were treatable either medically or behaviorally? Do we really believe that their current Management, collectively making close to a million per year, cannot find more solutions to save lives?

Maybe for starters they could make sure that the animals of the unhoused, estimated to be in the thousands, in camps and on our streets, are spayed and neutered? In one camp alone:

"three female pit bull mixes are on their second and third litters. A shepherd mix recently gave birth to nine puppies—eight females. Mom nursed her brood in a dirt-filled hole...the owner sold the puppies to passersby for $50 each.

Yet so many City Leaders, well aware of the ongoing problem of neglect, abuse and unabated reproduction turn the other way.

"City Councilmember Katie Valenzuela, whose district includes Front Street Animal Shelter, ignored multiple requests for comment."

Fix Front Street, a local group of animal advocates, made clear their outrage to Council Member Katie Valenzuela who has consistently defended Front Street management :

" Animals of the unhoused cannot find the resources the city received millions to provide...instead they are breeding out of control, getting parvo and dying and being bought and sold as a commodity. You had in a prior email said you would ask Director Zimmerman for a report on how these funds were used. Crickets. You said the federal money was all gone.

FOUR MILLION DOLLARS wasted as we predicted when we objected to them managing these funds. That Front Street is not utilizing its own facilities to spay and neuter at least their own animals so as not to impact our already backed up spay neuter clinics is appalling. The vets who used to volunteer on weekends to spay and neuter community cats have been turned away. Neither Director Zimmerman nor you have had any interest in utilizing high volume spay neuter teams who can work within their stated budget."

Will we be the VOICE for those who have NONE? Will we share their stories and make sure that those responsible are held accountable? Use you VOICE next year to make sure that Katie Valenzuela can no longer defend Front Street Management.
