Falling on Deaf Ears

A recent article in Inside Sacramento Magazine is very illuminating about the current state of affairs at Front Street Animal Shelter.

Most of us who love and care for animals agree that fostering saves lives. We would also agree that irresponsible fostering can be disastrous and harmful. Yet per Director Zimmerman the following questions are "barriers" to fostering:

  1. is the animal the right fit for the home? the correct size, breed, age and energy level for their foster potential family?

  2. Is the home clean and safe, fenced and gated?

  3. Do they understand the time commitment for potty training, socializing, exercising and veterinary visits?

  4. What about personality information?

These are barriers? These questions are asked every day by responsible Shelter's or Rescue to protect animals and the public!! ....not surprising Front Street Director puts such little effort into this life saving tool. Returned foster or adopted dogs often face an immediate death sentence... and it happens everyday.

Not surprising when more care is not taken to ensure their safety.

No wonder over 40 foster animals have been reported stolen. No wonder foster animals are found dumped in our neighborhoods, often unaltered. No wonder out of over 300 animals in foster only 29 are available for adoption.

No wonder they don't do more outreach for life saving fosters.

There must be too many "barriers" to doing your job Director Zimmerman? Ironic it was first reported in Inside Sacramento that Director Zimmerman adhered to a foster centric "community sheltering" trend. We contend no matter the irresponsible, untested trend, animals will pay the ultimate price with their lives.

Is it too much to ask that City Leaders ensure there is oversight and accountability from this taxpayer funded municipal shelter that receives over SEVEN MILLION annually, their Director receiving close to $200,000?

Will you speak up and ask City Leaders to require oversight and accountability from Front Street Management?
